Real Bread Week: A Time to Celebrate an Underappreciated Hero

February 24, 2020

With Real Bread Week upon us, we thought it would be a great time to highlight the importance of simplicity when it comes to making bread. Bread doesn’t need to be ultra-processed – it’s been enjoyed for over 10,000 years for the simple reason that it’s the perfect blank slate on which to base a meal around. While the pre-sliced loaves might be the first image that comes to mind when people consider what bread is, it’s actually enjoyed across the world in lots of very different forms, from naans and tortillas to pretzels and challahs. Bread can be the easiest form of food to make, or the most complex. It can range from being incredibly heady and flavoursome, to almost completely tasteless. What it should never be is pumped full of artificial additives and preservatives, causing it to last longer than it should and making it taste like something it is not, all at the expense of a natural, healthy diet.

When we think of ultra-processed foods, our minds generally jump to sugary breakfast cereals, sweets and chocolate. All of these are things that we know we should avoid because of the often unhealthy and unnatural additives that go into making them.

Of course, we’re only human! Enjoying heavily processed foods in moderation will often have no significant detrimental effects on our health. However, what’s worrying is that ultra-processed foods are becoming more and more commonly advertised as everyday items in supermarkets. Prime offenders of this can often be found in the food-to-go meal deal sections of popular supermarkets, which people so often rely on for easy, daily lunchtime options whilst at work.

AirWraps with Saima's Dishes

At Zinda Foods, we’re on a mission to bring easy food-to-go options back to basics. While we’re exceptionally proud of the delicious fillings that go into our freshly prepared products, it would be unfair not to give the bread that wraps around them their place in the sun this week!

Our AirWraps contain just five ingredients (wheat flour, sunflower oil, water, salt and sugar). They don’t rely on unnatural additives and preservatives and they can be enjoyed both hot and cold, making them lighter, healthier and more versatile than any ultra-processed bread product you’re likely to find at your local supermarket.
